Tactical Carbine & Pistol 101 | Tactical Firearms Training in Wyoming
This tactical firearms training in Wyoming is the perfect course for beginners and is also useful for intermediate level shooters. This carbine and pistol course will be on the range, with little indoor classroom time. If you “learn by doing” this firearms training is for you! Not only is this class good for building skills, it is the most fun thing to do in Jackson Hole!
- June 6, 2015 – Saturday (Click HERE for Day 2)
- 9am to 5pm
- $140 + 300 rounds carbine ammo and 150 rounds pistol ammo
- Loaner guns & gear available – contact us for more information
- Jackson Hole Gun Club
This class includes training and a lot of practice. We notice that many of our competitors teach 50 skills, and 98% of students don’t follow up with enough practice. 6 months later, these shooters have lost most of the 50 skills they were taught.
Our philosophy is to break down skills to the most important and drill them repeatedly, adding skills little by little and then new drills that include all of the skills taught. In a single day, we can not repeat skills enough to have perfectly ingrained muscle memory, however we give it our darndest!
This class is designed for fast learners, and we will help you keep up! While we appreciate those with analytical minds that enjoy linear thinking, we will be shooting and not providing 10-minute lectures on the physics behind striker-fire versus hammer strike systems. We will be shooting, ducking, weaving and then shooting more!
Our unique firearms training style allows shooters of all skill levels to be challenged in a safe manner. We keep small class sizes and low shooting instructor:student ratios so that each student will receive individual attention. We don’t line all students up and expect those with different skill levels to perform the same drills. That traditional style leaves some feeling overwhelmed and others feel bored.
- You will NOT feel “left behind” or confused if your skills are rusty.
- If you are sharp, athletic and the best shooter at the range; we will none-the-less make this class challenging and you will improve your pistol shooting and personal protection skills!
- Terry Vaughn will be the instructor, this is a great chance to learn from a former British Commando and author of Not With My Daughter, A Father’s Guide to Screening Dates & Boyfriends!

In June 2015 we proudly unveiled our dynamic Defensive Tactical Three Gun (DefTac3G) class! This course is up to three hours in length, and our prerequisite is typically that participants have shot with us in our Multi-Gun Experience or are otherwise experienced shooters. This includes shooting at least 100 shots at least 3 times in the previous 6 months, whether in competition, serious practice including drawing from the holster, in reputable training (not Utah CFP) classes or similar. This class is NOT FOR BEGINNERS. Book NOW!
Upon arrival, you will be outfitted with a tactical vest, holster, hearing protection & eye protection and you will participate in a safety briefing. Afterward, each of your skill and comfort levels will be individually analyzed by your coach, some students will enter this session knowing more than others and some will be safer handling the firearms. Your coach will set the pace of the class based on this. Depending on your demonstrated safety and consistent adherence to drill instructions (not based on skill or speed) your coach will determine how many shooters will be on the firing line at a time. Your group will be outfitted with your choice of 9mm or .45 ACP semi-autos and AR-15 carbines, as well as a defensive 12 gauge shotgun.
You will then learn and hone skills as your instructor leads you through numerous drills. Every DefTac3G is different as we customize it specifically for you and yours. Skill sets taught can include:
- Shooting accurately while moving
- Core skills
- Draw and presentation speed
- Real world adaptability, tactical awareness
- Situational and personal
- Instinctive (reflexive) shooting
- Combat (reactive) and tactical (proactive) reloads
- Turns and pivots
- Shooting accuracy from a variety of positions
- Active shooter responses
- Shoot/no shoot decision making
- Effectiveness around obstacles
- Use of cover, engaging multiple targets
- Target priority
- Inoculation to high stress shooting
- Physical and mental conditioning in readiness for the fight
- Speed drills, accuracy drills
- V-tac drills including the 9-hole
- Both with carbine and pistols
- Controlled pairs
- Shooting while injured
- Stoppage drills for clearing malfunctions and more!
Pricing: You will be pushed beyond your comfort levels and will improve whatever skill level you previously had, while keeping the activity safe. You pay for ammo in addition to the course fee of $600 for up to 4 shooters. You may shoot as much or as little ammunition as you like. When you call to book, please give us an idea of your preferences. We can limit ammunition to as little at $100/person or any other higher amount. (Pistol, shotgun & carbine ammo is 60¢ per shot.) $150 to $250 per person will give all shooters a lot of trigger time!
All targets, firearms, range fees, water, hearing and eye protection and your private coach are included in the price. Book NOW!

Musical Targets Now Here!!!
Posted: October 22, 2014 by "Doc" in Fun Things to do in Jackson Hole, Product reviews, Shooting, Shooting Philosophy & Tips, UncategorizedFor many years I have been suggesting that something like this be invented, and now someone has done it!!! I bet he was mocked by his friends when he pitched the idea to them just like me. I am proud of him for making it happen!
Next step? Get rid of the “notes” and change to colors or words… something that is easier for the non-musical folks to memorize.
Then, set up systems of songs that 2 or 3 or 50 shooters can play, requiring each to have perfect timing!
A big thanks to the inventor!!!
